Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful, from the counter workers who greeted us, to the gentleman who cleared out dishes and was such a friendly person. We each had a different pie, and all three were delicious. Loved the entire experience!

  We arrived at Greenwich at lunchtime, and so we went straight to Goddards. We ordered their apple pie with two large scoops of ice cream (£3.40) and our first ever... read more ‘proper’ eel (the previous tasting was of the smoked variety) and so ordered pie (minced beef), mash and eels (£8.30). When the person who served us realised this was a ‘first time’ she gave us some tips - watch out for the one bone in the middle of each piece of eel, and apply vinegar and salt. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food, although we thought the apple pie would be improved if filo pastry had been used, as was the case with the beef pie. The eel was quite tasty and was white flesh with the texture of fish.

They also do amazing homemade fruit pies and crumbles all with custard or ice cream and the prices are very reasonable with decent portions that fill you up. Staff are always very friendly and the place is always really clean. Staff go round clearing and cleaning tables as customers come and go. We had steak and ale pies today but they were a bit disappointing as very bland and not much flavour. Had these pies before and usually very good so not too sure what happened today?? It’s always been spot on for a great pie and mash so maybe todays steak and ale pies let down were a one off. Still the best pie and mash shop of all time IMO.

The staff were really friendly and helpful with everyone who came in and even told them to add vinegar and pepper, which was the perfect . Lots of seating and an airconditioned room upstairs. Pie was tasty, mashed was... read more yummy creamy, liquor sauce was a bit bland but works together with the pie and mashed. Eel is something different. i liked it. But i can see it is not everyone’s cuppa. But if your stomach can handle fish, just go for it, even just for the sake of experience. Who knows. you might love it.

the gentleman and the lady behind the counter were really friendly. i asked for eel, mashed and pie. The young lady asked me if i ever had eels (probably because of the bones), and when i asked for gravy, she said : no no darling, you want liquor with your eels!
(she is of course right).

i travelled light, so i couldn’t bring home their products (chilly oil and such). But the chilly oil tastes great with the eel (they have it on every table).

  Best pies - I’ve been there many times since I live in London (2014) and pies are always excellent. On my last visit I was disappointed by the staff; I was in the... read more queue and I was rudely asked to look for a table and come back to order. When I came back they want me to queue up again and when I explained why I wasn’t in the queue I was told that it doesn’t work like that. Maybe it was a misunderstanding, maybe the staff was a bit stressed because it was busy, but I think be nice and polite with customers and people in general doesn’t cost anything.
