We arrived at Greenwich at lunchtime, and so we went straight to Goddards. We ordered their apple pie with two large scoops of ice cream (£3.40) and our first ever... read more ‘proper’ eel (the previous tasting was of the smoked variety) and so ordered pie (minced beef), mash and eels (£8.30). When the person who served us realised this was a ‘first time’ she gave us some tips - watch out for the one bone in the middle of each piece of eel, and apply vinegar and salt. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food, although we thought the apple pie would be improved if filo pastry had been used, as was the case with the beef pie. The eel was quite tasty and was white flesh with the texture of fish.

August 19, 2023A fun experience and an inexpensive but solid meal - Family run - self serve - friendly staff - minimal decor - no nonsense pies - rock bottom pricing. If any one or more of those adjectives sound promising then... read more Goddards at Greenwich pies are for you (eat in or take out). If you expect more then you will be disappointed by this replica of an old fashioned pie shop - they even have cold and hot eels on the menu! Sure the traditional pies are all minced beef, but the Full Range offers a broad selection: lamb, chicken, steak and kidney and even a vegetarian cheese and onion pie - all offered with and without mash. A fun experience with a tourist bias but there many obviously local folk eating there.
